Home Business Scams and How to Avoid Them

Home Business Scams and How to Avoid Them

Youve heard their highly tempting proposition at least once: with this job or business, youll make money fast and in large amounts, without having to work as hard as youre working now, and in the comfort of your own home. But are such offers to be trusted? How can you tell if a home business offer is fake or for real? Here are a few of the most common business scams you should avoid:

The Classic Envelope Stuffing Scam

Perhaps the most infamous of all home-based business scams, this one requires you to send a small fee to a company who will send you a specific number of envelopes to stuff. You are promised to be paid a fee for every envelope that you stuff, but more often than not, the money never comes, and instead of earning, youve actually lost money because of the fee you initially paid the company.

The Call 1-900- Scam

Advertisements for this scam will tell you to call a 1-900 number in order to obtain more information on a home-business offer or a work-at-home job. But 1-900 numbers, unlike 1-800 ones, are not toll fee and require a fee, so you end up losing money by just making the call. And the information they promised? Often such information is next to trivial, and totally useless.

The Scam that Turns You into a Scammer

With this one, youll usually receive an email promising you lots of earnings by just using your computer at home to send out some emails. All you have to do is send them a small fee to receive some instructions.

What you get for the fee you paid them are instructions on how you can send the same email you received to other addresses. And the payback you get? Non-existent.

Some Tips on How You Can Avoid Home-Business Scams

1. If it seems too good to be true, chances are, it probably is. If a home business idea or work-at-home-job offers you huge amounts of money for doing next to nothing, chances are, what youll actually get in return is next to nothing or worse, you wouldve lost money as well.

2. Never pay a company for the chance to work. Remember, youre looking for a job home-based business because you want to be paid, not the other way around.

3. If its spam, its most likely a scam. Theres only one thing to do with spam, and thats hit delete.

A home-based business can be a very lucrative and fulfilling venture, but make sure that youre starting one thats legitimate and with actual worth. Otherwise, youll realize that youve left your job only to be taken advantage of.

How To Create and Use Affiliate Programs to Drive More Traffic To A Website

How To Create and Use Affiliate Programs to Drive More Traffic To A Website

Perhaps one of the most low-profile Internet marketing schemes is affiliate marketing. However, low-profile does not mean unsuccessful, because this type of marketing continues to play a significant role in e-commerce.

What is affiliate marketing?

In a nutshell, affiliate marketing works on a reward system, wherein one website drives traffic to another website in exchange for reward points. Basically, it works this way: if you are an affiliate (or associate) of an online-based company, you create your own website, which links back to that company. Any visitor to your site that you manage to re-direct to that company’s website will earn you rewards points. The more points you have, the more rewards you can actually reap. Some businesses prefer this type of marketing scheme because it is a pay-per-performance package deal.

In the non-Internet based business lingo, this type of reward system is called revenue sharing.

How to Create and Use Affiliate Marketing Programs

For the first few years, online business owners only allowed for affiliates with their own websites (or at the very least, their own webpages.) These days however, anyone can become an affiliate by simply: engaging in online discussions (chats, forums, message boards, etc.); using e-mail marketing, using offline promotions; writing e-books; or writing ezine articles.

There are certain advantages though, of having your own website. One: some online businesses require their affiliates to have one. Two: since it is your site, you can creatively promote one or all your affiliate programs, all at the same time. Lastly: a website has greater potential to reach more customers than forums or e-mail marketing strategies.

How to Choose an Affiliate Program

Choosing an affiliate program is equally important. Don’t grab the first one that comes along. You can visit Internet Affiliate Marketing Program Networks to compare and study different programs. Plus, most of the advertising merchants here will let new affiliates sign up for free. Choose a few of the programs that seem stable, and a few of those merchants with the longest history of sales and affiliate marketing success. Try not to be dazzled by the promises of millions of dollars, etc. etc. etc.

Once you’ve sized down your list, look into the quality of the products and services that these merchants are carrying. Your goal is to entice people to check out the goods. If you are not convinced of the quality of these products and services, what makes you think that your site visitors will be convinced as well? Besides, if the goods do fall short of expectations, your name as a marketer is on the line as well. Choose one (or more) which you think will be a credit to you, and not otherwise.

Creating the Site Itself

Once you’ve chosen from the affiliate program lot, you can either choose a program that can help you “build” your website by providing the necessary tools like banners, graphics and articles. If they can provide you with online training about how to effectively market their goods, then your life will be easier. If not, you then have to dedicate more time and energy into marketing your chosen product and goods.

Try to calculate if the time you spend creating product banners and articles is worth the compensation you will be getting from the company you’ve applied for. If it is not, it would be best to move on to another program.

The most essential key here is to create quality content in your site. People are looking to yours to see whether you can give them new insights or provide advice to their dilemma or verify a fact about something. A theme-based website will even bolster your reputation as an “expert” in your chosen niche, so try to limit your website to one theme only. Weave all your different affiliate programs in all your pages, but do so in a manner that will be attractive but not overwhelming.

At the end of your creative process, try to sit back and ask yourself if you are convinced with what you have on your site, and if you would consent to buying the products and services advertised within. If the answer is a “no,” or a “maybe” then you may want to check out other sites to see how you can improve your own.

Get Ahead and Succeed: Some Basic Home Business Productivity Tips

Get Ahead and Succeed: Some Basic Home Business Productivity Tips

You finally did it! Youve taken a brave, big step and have started your own home-based business.

Theres no turning back at this point, and the stakes have undeniably been raised. Its time to reap the rewards of your courage and hard work. Its time to earn money. Its time to get productive.

Here are some tips to help you increase the productivity of your business and receive what you deserve from your home-based business.

Make a schedule and stick to it.

Having flexible hours is one of the best benefits of running a home-based business, but it can also lead to the failure of your business if you dont know how to manage your time.

Dont think that just because you control your own time, you dont need to keep a schedule or stick to a routine. Set a particular time of the day for your business, say every morning from 8 to 12 am. This is especially important if youre still getting used to working at home. And as much as you can, stick to that schedule. Dont be tempted to put off your work for a later time in the day because something came up. Something will always come up with that kind of attitude. All you have to do is devote a certain number of hours everyday to your business, and you can spend the rest with your family or for leisure activities.

Avoid distractions.

Dont work in front of the TV or while listening to the radio if you feel that doing so would distract you. Just because youre free to do whatever you want while you work doesnt mean you should do whatever you want. Fulfill your business activities for the day in a conducive area of your home, and until youre done with them, keep away from those things that might distract you.

Set goals for your business.

You may have one big goal that you plan to achieve in the long run, but its also wise to keep less grand and short-term goals. You may aim for one objective daily, for instance, sending out emails to potential clients on Monday, or finalizing your business portfolio on Tuesday. Your short-term goals should also help you achieve your long-term goal.

Have fun.

Avoid being stressed about your home-based business the reason why you got into it in the first place is because you wanted to be free from the regular troubles of your previous job. Deal with the complications of running a business with passion and determination and you and your business are bound to them with success.

8 Suggested Items to Include in Your Email Marketing Checklist

8 Suggested Items to Include in Your Email Marketing Checklist

For better work efficiency and customer service, use an email marketing checklist to ensure the quality and timely arrival of your emails.

8 Suggested Items to Include in Your Email Marketing Checklist

Goal List

List down the specific goals you wish to achieve with your email. Once you’re done creating your email, use the checklist to verify whether all goals have been accomplished or not.

Outline and Format

It never hurts to have a draft and outline to work with. The details in your outline must then be included in your checklist. Reviewing them will allow you to determine if all key points have been properly addressed by your email. Secondly, make sure that your preferred format is included in your email marketing checklist. In most cases, your email marketing format would usually include but isn’t limited to subject header, introductory paragraph, body, conclusions, closing paragraph, call to action, and miscellaneous details.

Email Address Validation

There’s no point sending out an email if there’s no one to read it. Hence, take out your opt-in list and consider sending a confirmation email to verify whether all email addresses in your list are still active.

Testing Procedures
Try to think of the various tests your email must be subjected to for quality control.

Monitoring Results

Include in your checklist a periodic assessment period for your emails. Compute the conversion rate, click-through rate, referral rate, and any other applicable statistics for your email marketing campaign.

Previous Mistakes and Concerns

Include in your checklist a list of things you did wrong or overlooked in the past email. This will prevent history from repeating itself with your current email. Next, if there are any issues or concerns which you had promised your customers to address on your next email, include them in your checklist as well. It will remind you to address them as promised when you are in the process of formulating your latest email.

Email Versions

Some of your customers may prefer a text-only email while others may prefer graphic-heavy emails. If you are creating more than one version of your email, all versions with the appropriate reminders should also be included in your checklist.

Link Checking

Finally, remember to double-check all links pasted in your email to ascertain that they are clickable and that they do redirect your readers to the appropriate and functioning pages.

Make sure you have your email marketing checklist with you all the time. Remember to use this for monitoring and evaluating every email you send.

The Simple Guide to Downloading a Podcast

The Simple Guide to Downloading a Podcast

Podcasting is all the rage nowadays. It is a great way to keep track of syndicated audio shows without having to go out of your way to tune in to a particular station, or a particular show. All you have to do is download each episode and listen to them at your own leisure.

If you are new to the podcasting business, you might be at a loss for what to do to get this seemingly new and intimidating technology. The fact is that podcasting is pretty simple; all you need is a computer, an Internet connection, and ideally, a mobile audio device.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to take advantage of podcasting by downloading online content, and making sure you are up-to-date with the latest episodes in syndication.

1. Search for online content. The first thing you have to do is search for the type of content you would like to download. There are numerous podcast search sites that can help you find the content you’re looking for. There are hundreds, and even thousands, of podcasting sites that offer content of every ilk.

Most major sites also have podcasts, so if you already have a site which has content available in audio form, you can go straight to their site. Now, once you are at their site all you have to do is look for their podcast download page. It will typically list all of the available podcasts episodes available.

You can now click on any of them for download.

2. Download. Downloading is as simple as clicking on a particular podcast link and saving that file to your computer. You may also want to use a download manager software to make your downloading tasks easier. These applications make it easy for you to download multiple files at the same time.

3. Save the file to your mobile audio device. Once you have the files, you can then move them to your mobile audio device. This involves a simple file transfer from your computer to your device. After this, you can enjoy your online content on your own free time.

4. Keep track of the latest content from your favorite sites. RSS, or Really Simple Syndication, makes it easy for you to keep track of all the latest content available from your favorite sites. All you need is an RSS tracking software to inform you of all the latest content available from all your favorite sites.

Collect RSS feeds, Update Easily!

Collect RSS feeds, Update Easily!

The Internet is so dynamic that it calls for regular updates to bring the latest information to the net surfers. But that does not necessarily mean that you always have to update your sites, like your web logs manually. It only takes a practical move to keep the ball rolling without doing it yourself: Collecting RSS feeds!

With the emergence of the RSS technology, you can patch up various websites in your blog. And when these sites get updated, it will all be reflected in your blog! A nice and easy way to add fresh information instantly!

How does this technology work? Here are some pieces of information regarding the collection of RSS feeds that are relevant to your web logs.

How do I start getting RSS feeds?

IN the same way that web browsers enable you to check web sites, an application will allow you to check updates on others website via RSS feeds. And that application happens to be an RSS Feed Reader.

What are the advantages of RSS feed readers?

RSS feed readers scan specified sites that you are subscribed to. When new articles or files are uploaded, the RSS feed reader will publish a list of new items.

Here is where the advantages set in. RSS feed users save time and effort in checking updates. Since new pieces of information are compiled, it takes smaller storage space. And you do not have to see the whole web site, or hop from site to site to get updated.

And in the field of blogging, one does not have to update blogs very often. If you know credible sites that offer wonderful information, you can just patch these sites to their blog. And voila! You now have instant contents.

All it takes is checking the list of updated information!

What are the commendable RSS readers to use?

- Pluck

Aside from being an RSS feed reader, it offers a lot of tools to make content searching, sharing, retrieving and organizing easier. But the nicest thing about Pluck is it is absolutely free!

- FeedDemon

FeedDemon is an independent RSS feed reader that can be purchased for just $29.95 dollars.

A trial version that can be used for 20 days can also be downloaded.

- Newsgator

Newsgator is an add-on feature to Microsoft Outlook. It enables users to organize news feeds like an email. This is available for $29.00. You can also try it, free of charge, for 14 days.

How do I choose RSS feeds for my blog?

Pieces of information that can be considered list-oriented are good options for RSS feeds.

You actually determine what pieces of information would be relevant to your blog site. Once you have determined what sites must be included in your blog site, all you have to do is to subscribe to that web sites RSS feed.

One way to find RSS feeds would be checking out RSS directory sites:

- Sindic8

This has been acclaimed by SearchEngineWatch as a major RSS feeds directory. This has been made possible by thousands of volunteers and contributors that provide RSS links to the database.

- Daypop

If you are looking for fresh information, then this is the RSS feed directory site that you have to go to. All items featured in the site are assured to be current events.

How do I subscribe to an RSS feed?

You will determine what web sites you will be subscribing to. It all depends in your desired content for your blog.

You can use the RSS feed reader tools to locate content providers for your site. Or you may also locate these RSS feeds in the content provider website. Usually, the RSS feed link is defined by an orange button, with XML or RSS tag.

You can also locate the XML data in your web browser, copy it in a clipboard, and add it in the RSS feed reader. (Just follow the instructions provided in your RSS feed reader on how to add RSS feed.) Once added, the RSS feed reader will check updates from that site regularly.

Now that you know the basics of collecting RSS feeds as well as some credible RSS feed resources and RSS feed reader, I am pretty sure that your web log will never be outdated!
